Professor René Rizzoli is an internist and endocrinologist, with a focus on metabolic bone diseases, osteoporosis and disorders of mineral metabolism. He is emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University Hospitals of Geneva, and former Head of the Service of Bone Diseases. Prof. Rizzoli is an international leader in nutritional strategies (i.e. protein intake) and their impact on bone and muscle health in younger and older adults.
He is a former President of the Swiss Association against Osteoporosis. He is presently a member of the IOF Executive Committee, and also chairs the scientific advisory board of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis.
Professor Rizzoli used to be involved in both basic and clinical research projects investigating hormone action, protein, calcium, bisphosphonates, selective oestrogen modulators and strontium ranelate in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, and is the author of more than 1'000 publications. He is the Editor of Calcified Tissue International and Associate Editor of Osteoporosis International and Ageing Clinical and Experimental Research.
As a partner of DO-HEALTH, Prof. Rizzoli contributed to all bone and muscle related endpoints and explored the contribution of protein intake to the benefit of the interventions.
